How do I plan a project in the Timeline?
A project is a row in the Timeline. Drag across the days for each phase, nest phases with Part of, set milestones. Your calendars run above.
In the Timeline your calendars run at the top, under Personal, and your projects below them, under Projects. That way you see right away when a project phase falls into your holiday.
The idea in one sentence
A project is a row. Each phase of the project is a bar in that row. Do not create one project per task: put the tasks in the checklist, and plan the stretches of time as phases.
Create a project
- At the top of the app, click Timeline.
- Under Projects, click Create new project.
- Give the project a name and a colour.
Add phases
- In the project’s row, click the first day of the phase, keep the mouse button pressed and drag to the last day.
- The panel opens. Enter the name of the phase and Save.
- Repeat for every phase. Phases that overlap stack underneath each other by themselves.
Put phases inside a phase
Some phases have phases of their own, for example “Production” with design, build and testing. There are two ways:
- In the panel: click the phase that should go inside, choose the bigger phase under Part of and Save.
- By dragging: hold the phase and drag it under the bigger phase.
The bigger phase can then fold its phases away or show them. When you move it, its phases move with it.
Milestones and checklist
- Milestone: a single day that matters, such as a deadline or an opening. It appears as a point in the project’s row.
- Checklist: what has to be done but has no date of its own. It lives in the project.
Who does what?
The Timeline has no assignees. Write the name into the phase title (“Design - Ben”) or the checklist item. If you want to see people’s holidays next to the project, give each person a calendar of their own: it runs above the projects.
Free and Pro
In Free you see the Timeline with your calendars and can view projects that others share with you. Creating projects is part of Pro. Every new account starts with 30 days of Pro.
